Police find 60 animals — 10 dead — at Butler County home
A total of 60 animals were recovered — and several found dead — when Pennsylvania State Police executed a search warrant for animal cruelty Thursday at a Butler County home.
Troopers “observed obvious signs of neglect and starvation to all the animals on the property” in Slippery Rock Township, state police said in a press statement.
Several animals — including 10 alpacas, a basset hound, a chicken and a duck — were found “deceased and rotting: throughout the property, state police said.
The remaining animals, which included a horse, alpacas, ducks, chickens, dogs, and cats, were taken to the Anna Shelter in the Erie area, state police said.
Several children were reported by police to live at the home but were not present when police arrived. Child Youth Services was contacted and responded to the scene.
Police did not release the address of the house. No criminal charges were released.
The investigation remains ongoing, state police said.
No injuries reported in Washington County house fire
A fire broke out early Friday in a Washington County home.
Fire crews and paramedics responded to a home on Ellwood Lane in North Franklin Township at about 3:20 a.m., according to TribLive news partner WTAE.
It did not appear that anyone was taken to the hospital, WTAE reported.
There was no initial word on what sparked the fire.
North Side woman facing charges in fatal Arlington shooting
A North Side woman is scheduled to appear in court Friday on charges that she fatally shot an Arlington man last month.
Jaelyn Nowlin, 20, of Brighton Heights has been charged with killing Grant Gibeault, 25, in his apartment in the 2200 block of Arlington Avenue on Dec. 30.
Nowlin is charged with criminal homicide, robbery and two firearms counts. She has been held in Allegheny County Jail since Jan. 9. Her preliminary was set for Friday morning in Downtown Pittsburgh.
After a Dec. 30 confrontation inside Gibeault’s apartment, Nowlin pulled a gun from her bag and shot him several times, according to the account she gave police.
Gibeault gave his own brief account of the situation shortly before the shooting when police said that he texted an unnamed witness around 8:10 p.m.: “Just got robbed at gunpoint.”
Police later found 17 fired bullets and shell casings in the apartment, a criminal complaint said.
Nowlin’s attorney was not listed in the court record.
