A 17-year-old boy shot at grocery store workers in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood Saturday afternoon after stealing the store’s tip jar, but was eventually captured, said police.
Pittsburgh police were called to the Las Palmas grocery store on Broadway Avenue at around 3:45 p.m. Officials said a juvenile got into an altercation with the workers, stole the tip jar from the Latino grocery store, and then fled.
Workers chased the youth, who fired at them on nearby Hampshire Avenue, according to police.
Police said the workers fired back and the juvenile continued to run off.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Pittsburgh police set up a perimeter around the scene, and a police dog eventually located the boy three blocks away from Las Palmas in the 1600 block of Belasco Avenue.
Another police dog located a gun in the area, police said.
The juvenile was taken by medics to the hospital to be cleared medically before being questioned by detectives, according to police.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said the Mobile Crime Unit processed evidence at the scene, and the department’s Violent Crime Unit will be handling the investigation.
