Werner Avenue in Bridgeville, between Chartiers and James streets, will be closed to local traffic until mid-June so crews can repair multiple landslides along the side of the road, said Bridgeville Manager Joe Kauer.

The stretch of road closed Thursday, Feb. 1.

The project includes building a steel beam and a concrete lagging retaining wall to hold up the road, storm sewer installation, a new guardrail and road paving, Kauer said. A. Merante Contracting, of West Mifflin, is doing the work. There will be limited access for residents during working hours.

The cost of the project is $882,000.

The borough, with help from state Sen. Devlin Robinson, R-Bridgeville, received a $500,000 Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund grant to help pay for the project.

The remaining $382,000 will be paid for from the borough’s federal appropriation of the American Rescue Plan, Kauer said.
