Pittsburgh student accused of assaulting 4 school staff members
An 18-year-old is accused of assaulting staff members at a Pittsburgh school.
Qvawn Rembert-Leonard, 18, faces four counts of aggravated assault in connection with a Jan. 30 incident at Oliver Citywide Academy Satellite at Greenway in Pittsburgh’s Crafton Heights neighborhood, according to court records
Pittsburgh School Police filed the charges Tuesday.
Police said they spoke with a staff member who said Rembert-Leonard appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The staff member told police they were concerned that Rembert-Leonard, who has access to guns and other weapons, might return to the school and hurt somebody, the complaint said.
The complaint said staff members became concerned when they heard Rembert-Leonard talking about fentanyl and cocaine when he asked to use a school phone to call his social worker.
When a woman asked Rembert-Leonard if she could use the phone, Rembert-Leonard grabbed her and threw her across the room, the complaint said.
Rembert-Leonard then knocked over a locked cabinet where students’ cellphones are kept in an effort to get his own phone and assaulted at least three people before walking off school property, the complaint said.
