Lane restrictions in both directions on Interstate 70 in Rostraver that were to have ended this week are being extended through March 1, according to PennDOT.
Both eastbound and westbound traffic is limited to a single lane each day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eastbound restriction is in effect between the North Belle Vernon and Route 51 South/Uniontown exits while the westbound restriction is in place between the Route 51 South and Monessen exits.
The restrictions are related to paving work by contractor Golden Triangle that is part of a $120.6 million project to widen lanes on an a section of I-70 and reconfigure the interchange with Route 51.
That interchange is being reformatted in a “diverging diamond” pattern. Lanes of traffic on new twin Route 51 bridges over the interstate will switch to the opposite side of the road and back again, through intersections with traffic signals. That will allow drivers to turn left to enter the interstate without crossing opposing lanes of traffic.
Also, a 1-mile section of Route 51 will be widened, Finley Road will be relocated to form a four-way intersection at Route 981, and a left-turn lane will be added from Route 51 to Ridge Road.
The overall project is slated for completion by October 2027.
