Historic downtown Saxonburg was closed to traffic on Main Street on Saturday, but it was flooded with hundreds of people for the 3rd Annual Saxonburg Winter Festival.

The daylong festival is sponsored by The Little Shops of Saxonburg in collaboration with the Saxonburg Area Business Association.

Crafters, food trucks and vendors, and horse-drawn carriage rides were some of the activities at the family-friendly festival.

Main Street businesses were open and festival-goers mingled indoors and outside under sunny skies and live music.

Many enjoyed warming up near outdoor fire pits, and Elsa and Anna from Disney’s “Frozen” mingled about offering photo opportunities.

A rogue rescue turkey named BB proved to be the most unusual visitor Saturday.

BB, animal ambassador with J&J Farms Animal Sanctuary in Saxonburg, strutted alongside his handler Jesse Lake along Main Street, wearing custom fancy turkey threads.

Brittany Link of Tarentum sampled some of the festival fare from DelVecchio’s Sausage & Fries, alongside Colin Coco of Hampton.

“This is our first time here, and we made a date out of it,” Link said.
