Edgeworth Elementary families recently gathered at the Quaker Valley school to raise funds for a charitable cause.

The annual Carnival for a Cure took place Feb. 29.

Hundreds of people from the community played games, enjoyed sweets and won raffles as part of the event benefiting the American Cancer Society.

“I am so proud of my students for putting on such a great event,” said fifth grade teacher and carnival organizer Jen Bradley. “The games were amazing, the children were excellent, and the crowd was outstanding.

Bradley said all of the fifth grade students at Edgeworth created and ran the games. The fifth grade teachers, along with a few others from the building, did the setup, tear down, and oversight. A group of Home & School Association parents ran the concessions and donated the prizes.

It is all under the umbrella of the Sewickley Valley Relay for Life Committee, Bradley said.

The carnival’s 13th installment raised about $4,000.

Bradley said the event began in 2012 as a service-learning project and has continued to grow into a great annual community event that everyone looks forward to.
