Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey has nearly double the available cash of Republican challenger Dave McCormick, who has put nearly $2 million of his own money into this year’s campaign.
Federal campaign finance reports for the first quarter of the year show that Casey raised $5.67 million, including $4.35 million from individual donors, just over $1 million from various committees and $280,000 from political-action committees.
Casey’s campaign called the quarterly total “the largest fundraising haul of his career.”
Casey spent $3.22 million in the quarter, leaving him with $11.88 million in cash on hand.
Earlier this month, the Casey campaign said it received more than 90,000 contributions from more than 53,000 donors, with about 80% of contributions under $50.
McCormick, who also announced his haul earlier this month, reported that he raised $5.35 million and loaned his campaign $970,900 following a $1 million loan in the fourth quarter.
First-quarter filings show McCormick spent $3.29 million, leaving him with $6.2 million in available cash.
Records show that McCormick, a former hedge fund CEO, loaned $14 million to his campaign for the 2022 Republican primary race against Dr. Mehmet Oz, who won the GOP primary but lost to now-Sen. John Fetterman in November 2022.
This year’s Senate race is widely expected to be the most expensive in Pennsylvania history, surpassing the $408 million total spent in 2022 by the campaigns ($167.2 million) and outside groups ($240.5 million).
