Boaters can hit the water in Sharpsburg on Saturday with the official season opening of Kayak Pittsburgh.

The launch at James Sharp Landing will be open on weekends to offer kayak and canoe rentals. Individual passes, group bookings and classes are available.

“We are eager to welcome the community back to the water,” said Valerie Beichner, CEO of Venture Outdoors.

The nonprofit operates three locations for water enthusiasts. They include North Park and a pop-up at the Heinz Quay Boat Launch on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

Venture Outdoors was founded in 2001 with a mission to break barriers and create access to outdoor experiences.

James Sharp Landing sits off 13th Street.

Boaters who enjoy the Allegheny River in that spot often are treated to glimpses of birds and other wildlife in the natural backdrop of the Sharpsburg shoreline.

Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
