Ten graduating seniors from Fox Chapel Area were honored by the Rotary Club for their leadership, academics and selfless attitude.
“We are most impressed each year by the caliber of students chosen,” said Bob Trimble, the club’s president. “These are smart, likeable kids who will make a terrific contribution to our community and beyond in the years ahead.”
An awards luncheon was hosted May 15 at Lauri Ann West Community Center in O’Hara.
Students are chosen by district teachers in various academic departments. They received a monetary award and certificate.
The top winner was Sarah Slember, who received the Rotary’s Service Above Self Award. The varsity athlete will attend Colgate University as a pre-med major.
Other honorees were Whitney Jones, who will be an accounting major at Loyola University; Kaylee Dunham, a dual major in business at the Community College of Allegheny County and Indiana University of Pennsylvania; Ava McCaffrey, who plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology to study Computer Science and possibly minor in German; Michael Shin, who will study architecture at the University of Miami; Eli Herzer, who will study music performance and composition at Duquesne University; Freddy Hanna, who will study business at the University of Kentucky; Lakshanya Rajaganapthi, a pre-med student at the University of Pittsburgh; Darren Jayaratnam, who will study aerospace engineering at Purdue University; and Ellie Nawrocki, who will study nursing at either Belmont University or DeSales University.
