Roads in a New Kensington neighborhood and the city’s downtown are expected to be resurfaced this year.
City council on Monday awarded a contact of about $107,500 to A. Liberoni of Plum to pave two roads in the Mount Vernon area — Center Avenue from the bridge over Little Pucketa Creek to Argonne Drive, and Riverview Drive from Seventh Street to Pleasant Avenue.
A. Liberoni submitted the lowest of nine bids, city engineer Tony Males said.
The work is expected to be done by the end of September.
While the city is paying for that work, grants are paying for street resurfacing downtown, Males said.
In April, council awarded a contract just under $150,000 to Tresco Paving to resurface 10th Street, from Industrial Boulevard to Barnes Street, and 11th Street, from Third Avenue to the viaduct.
For that work, Tresco also had been the lowest of nine bidders.
Depending on the weather, Males said, 10th and 11th streets are scheduled to be milled on Thursday, with paving following on Monday.
Council approved having Males prepare plans and specifications for resurfacing Fifth Avenue between Seventh and 10th streets.
Males said the city will fast-track that work, with the city seeking bids so council can award a contract in September and the work can be done this year.
