A portion of Crane Avenue closed Friday after a privately owned dump truck ran into a railway trestle bridge on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh.
Crane Avenue was to traffic between Route 51 and Dagmar Avenue as of Friday afternoon, the City of Pittsburgh said.
The truck hit the bridge overnight, according to Emily Bourne, a city spokesperson.
The railway trestle is owned and operated by Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway.
As soon as the bridge is inspected and cleared, Crane Avenue will reopen, the city said.
In the meantime, drivers should avoid the area and follow the posted detour sign.
Some of Route 51, which is also known as Saw Mill Run Boulevard in that stretch, was closed as crews began work to raze the Saw Mill Run Boulevard bridge near Woodruff Street at the beginning of August. Detours are in effect.
Parts will remain closed throughout the month as crews demolish — not implode — the bridge, PennDOT officials told TribLive news partner WTAE.
