A woman was in serious condition when she was taken to a hospital from a crash on Chartiers Avenue on Saturday morning, according to Pittsburgh police.

Police said two vehicles collided head-on in the 2600 block of Chartiers Avenue, on the border of the city’s Sheraden and Crafton Heights neighborhoods, just before 8 a.m.

According to police, the woman was driving an SUV outbound when she crossed the center line into the path of a sedan driven by a man. She was pinned in her vehicle with serious injuries.

Medics gave the woman whole blood in the field while the roof of her vehicle was removed to get her out, police said.

The man’s car flipped onto its side. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.
