Pittsburgh firefighters respond to 2 vehicle fires in 3 days
Pittsburgh firefighters responded to two vehicle fires that damaged three vehicles over three days, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Around 5 a.m. Saturday, two vehicle fires were reported along the 1100 block of Paulson Avenue. The vehicles belonged to separate owners. The fires are considered suspicious and remain under investigation, police said.
Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 5100 block of Cypress Street. An electric vehicle had caught fire and damaged overhead utility wires, police said.
Grieving Pittsburgh family seeks help paying for girl’s funeral
The family of a 9-year-old Pittsburgh girl who died after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle is asking for help paying for her funeral costs.
Courtney Carter was hit around 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Rosedale Street near Tacoma Street in Homewood. She died at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
A fund set up through House of Law Funeral Home had collected nearly $8,000 from more than 130 people as of Tuesday morning.
The money is needed by Wednesday, ahead of the planned viewing Friday evening at the funeral home in Penn Hills, TribLive news partner WTAE reported. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday morning at Bethany Baptist Church in Homewood.
Crafton police seek missing man
Crafton police are trying to find a man whose family has reported him missing.
Drew Arley Thomas has not been heard from since Aug. 16, when he texted his mother, police said. His phone has since been out of service.
Thomas is described as white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a beard and weighing about 170 pounds. He may be wearing dark pants or jeans with a yellow hooded sweatshirt.
He is believed to frequent the Point State Park area or Downtown Pittsburgh.

West Liberty Avenue reopens after crash
West Liberty Avenue at Cape May Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood was closed in both directions for an extended time while an early morning crash was cleared, Pittsburgh police said.
Police, firefighters and medics responded to the single-vehicle rollover around 4 a.m. A woman suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.
The road has reopened.
