Bicyclist hit by vehicle on Route 8 in Shaler has died

The bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning before dawn in Shaler has died, according to police.

Allegheny County Police announced the man death’s Thursday afternoon. They said his identification will be released by the county medical examiner’s office.

According to Allegheny County Police, the collision in the 1700 block of William Flynn Highway was reported at 4:50 a.m.

The bicyclist was crossing William Flynn Highway when he was hit. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.

The cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, county police said, but later died.

Northbound Route 8 near Butler Plank Road was closed for hours as the investigation took place.
