U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg made an appearance Friday afternoon at a canvass kickoff for Kamala Harris and local Democrats — Rep. Mandy Steele and U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio — in Cheswick.

Volunteer canvassers gathered at Steele’s campaign headquarters, which is located in a building that used to house a Pizza Hut along Pittsburgh Street. Buttigieg spoke to attendees about canvassing methods and the importance of their efforts. He offered encouraging words to more than 50 people before they were given neighborhood assignments and began their door-knocking.

After he spoke, the volunteers lined up to meet him and take photos.
