Donations sought for annual Vandergrift food drive

Vandergrift Police Department is conducting its Feed the Families food drive through Nov. 22.

Non-perishable food items and monetary contributions will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the police station, 109 Grant Ave., in care of Officer Joe Gray. Families in need can send an email to Officer Gray at gray@vandergriftborough.com.


Tarentum church conducting annual mobility equipment drive

Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., Tarentum, is collecting canes, crutches, walkers, shower chairs, incontinence supplies and manual wheelchairs through Nov. 30 to be donated to Global Links, a charity that works to redirect still-useful materials away from landfills to support public health programs in targeted communities throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Thursday : American Wine Society will meet at 7 p.m. at River Forest Country Club, 130 Club House Drive. The date was listed incorrectly in the Nov. 9 Stroller column. Adam Knoerzer will discuss “Same Grape, Different Regions” highlighting climate and the factors that affect the flavor and quality of wine grapes. Nov. 22 and 23: Apollo United Presbyterian Church, 401 First St., is accepting reservations for its annual Christmas tea. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. for a craft sale and entertainment will be at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Menu: chicken salad or baked ham croissant. Cost: $20. Proceeds will benefit Food 4 Kids and Apollo Area Food Bank. Paid reservations required. Brackenridge

Buffalo Township

Harrison   

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: Friends of Harrison Hills Park will meet at 10 a.m. at the park Environmental Center, Freeport Road. Public welcome.

Indiana Township

Saturday: Trinity United Church of Christ, Dorseyville, will sponsor a winter coat giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon in the assembly hall, 3712 Saxonburg Blvd. All sizes available. A collection bin is available for coat donations by the lower red doors. Details: 412-767-4794.

Jefferson Township

Tuesday and Wednesday: Concordia Haven Retirement Living Apartments will sponsor open house events at 2 p.m. in the Haven I dining room, 112 Marwood Road. Use Entrance 2A. There will be an educational seminar and free appetizers, drinks and tours. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are preferred. Leechburg   

Saturday: Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company will host a turkey bingo at 4:30 p.m. at the firehall, 268 Canal St. Doors open at 3 p.m. and an early bird jackpot game that pays $300 will be at 4 p.m. Cost: $35 in advance; at the door, $45; includes a light meal, and a packet for 20 regular games that pay $100 and four specials that pay $250. Lower Burrell

Sunday and Tuesday: Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. An opportunity for silent prayer will be at 6:30 p.m.

Washington Township   

Today: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.

Sunday: A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Kiski Area High School baseball team will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at Poke Run Presbyterian Church social hall, 1091 Poke Run Church Road. West Deer

Nov. 23: The deacons of East Union Church, in cooperation with the West Deer Food Bank, will distribute Thanksgiving baskets to local families in need.
