Letter to the editor: Bigger government isn’t better

In the wake of a historical presidential election, it’s evident to me that many in the Democratic Party and the pompous media are refusing to accept the outcome. They were so invested in propagating the narrative that Donald Trump is an “existential threat” to democracy that they started to believe it.

When you buy into the notion that nothing in the history of the world is as important as preventing a second Trump presidency, it’s not easy to get past the fact that you failed. Perish the thought that your efforts may have actually helped get him elected! (Side note: If Trump is as evil as Dems say, how bad a candidate must Kamala Harris have been?)

But the thing that may scare elitist Democrats the most is that America could be rejecting the party’s philosophy of “bigger government equals better government.” Quoting Michelle Obama from an interview conducted earlier this year when referencing low propensity voters: “Oh my God, does government do everything for us.” Maybe, at long last, people are figuring out that when you depend on government, government owns you.

America was founded on the concept of individual liberties and limited government power. The Declaration of Independence declares that our creator has bestowed upon us certain inalienable rights. The Democratic Party has persistently sought to replace the creator with the government.

The inscription on the Statue of Liberty says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” The Democrat mantra seems to be “give us your mind, your heart, your soul, and we’ll give you free stuff.”
