Property taxes would not change under New Kensington’s proposed $11.4 million budget for 2025.

Council approved the spending plan on a 3-0 vote, with members Dante Cicconi and Corey Pistininzi absent.

The property tax rate would remain at 32.03 mills.

Under the budget, the city would spend about 5.7% more than its $10.8 million budget for 2024. The increase is due to health care, pensions and labor increases, city Clerk Dennis Scarpiniti said.

The biggest initiative not reflected in the budget is that the city is applying to the state Infrastructure Bank to borrow money against its liquid fuels funds to pave streets, Scarpiniti said.

The budget can be inspected at the city clerk’s office at City Hall on 11th Street.

Council may take a final vote on the budget on Dec. 30, Scarpiniti said.
