Letter to the editor: Trump unfit for presidency

While you Donald Trump supporters sip your Kool-Aid, you need to be reminded of several facts. As you recall, former Vice President Mike Pence and Gen. John Kelly, among hundreds of others, declared Trump unfit for the presidency.

Now we see already that he is planning to put people who I believe are unfit in cabinet positions. These people are of his ilk, some with questionable, possibly illegal, actions in their backgrounds and sexual misconduct allegations, some who are graduates of “Fox News University.” Most of these people have no experience or background in the fields that are their responsibilities.

Regarding tariffs, Trump is turning a deaf ear on all the advice given by top-notch economists and professors in that field.

In my 70th year of business and as vice president of a large company, I have found tariffs to be bittersweet. Years ago when President Bush put a tariff on import steel, I, as vice president, purchased 263 trailerloads of steel pipe at pre-tariff costs. We sold it at post-tariff levels, riding the market up and winding up with a 45% windfall. Later, I, as Mr. homemaker, bought a washer and dryer at a 35% higher cost than the previous year, not to mention many other items at much higher costs as well. Who benefited from that Bush decision?

I recently saw Russian President Vladimir Putin on TV with a smile (first time ever?) and a comment on how intelligent his buddy Trump is. Birds of a feather … .

Hope the good ol’ USA survives these next four years as his dictatorship progresses!
