A man was detained and a woman was taken to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Route 28 in Tarentum.

Summit Hose Chief Josh Fox said his crews were dispatched at 3:11 p.m. Tuesday for the crash, which was just past Exit 14, the Tarentum exit on northbound Route 28.

It’s unclear what led to the crash, Fox said. He said the car, a blue Volkswagen Golf AllTrack, was in the passing lane and hit the guardrail in the median and spun out in the northbound lanes.

The passing lane of traffic was blocked off as crews cleared the scene. The car was undriveable and Hawk Towing of New Kensington performed the tow.

Fox said two people were in the car. A passenger, a woman, was taken by a Eureka ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison for non-life-threatening injuries, Fox said.

Following field sobriety testing, state troopers placed the driver in handcuffs.
