A traffic light in Harmar, blamed over the weekend for traffic snarls on Route 28, has been fixed, township and PennDOT officials say.
The light, at the end of the Route 28 southbound exit ramp to Harmar, was the focus of motorists’ ire because its cycle was only allowing a few vehicles exiting Route 28 to make it through the intersection. The problem seemed to be particularly bad for vehicles making a left turn onto Route 910 on their way to Freeport Road.
Over the weekend, motorists complained the light had traffic backed up onto Route 28 itself as drivers tried to get through the light.
Officials say the equipment was repaired Sunday night after PennDOT’s review.
Steve Cowan, PennDOT spokesman, said traffic signals are owned and maintained by municipalities.
“When a motorist identifies an issue with a traffic signal, they should reach out to the municipality,” Cowan said. “However, if they are unsure, they can provide information to PennDOT’s Customer Care Center. The department will provide the information to the appropriate municipality.”
