Letter to the editor: Trump has given us optimism

Now that the new president has been sworn in and the Cabinet picks are advancing through the confirmation process, I feel a palpable sense of optimism in the nation, and in fact around the world. We are coming out of four years of national malaise, with record high inflation, high energy costs, massive spending on what I believe are unwanted and unnecessary green energy projects, a humiliating Afghanistan retreat, borders allowing massive illegal immigration, violent crime, major wars in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, China threatening Taiwan, and a new China, Russia, Iran and North Korea alliance that makes the world a far more dangerous place.

In my opinion, this is all the result of weak, feckless or at times absent leadership. Regardless of what one thinks of President Trump personally, I think that any reasonable person can see that his plan for restoring the nation for a more prosperous and stable future is necessary. The past administration’s focus on DEI policies, transgender ideology and the Green New Deal and lack of focus on our borders has not served us well. I think the miracle we witnessed in Butler County in July happened for a reason.
