Letter to the editor: End of democracy?

Call me crazy, but I have a strong gut feeling that America’s democracy is coming to its end under the current administration and our spineless Congress.
That our president has allowed the nonelected richest man on the planet to be his hatchet man and surrounded himself with people I consider unqualified sycophants leads me to believe his end game is to kill democracy to become a dictator, just like his friend in Moscow, who he said was not to blame for invading Ukraine and murdering and raping its citizens. That was as despicable a thing as any for an American president to say.
I don’t believe President Trump’s so-called humor about a third term is humor; it’s his desire to do what Vladimir Putin did — sham elections to hold onto power.
In my lifetime (70 years), I have never despised a president or been ashamed of America, as I feel now. And to the 77 million who voted for him (outside of the one-issue voters — abortion, racial hate), I ask, “Is this truly what you believed you were voting for?” And if the majority of the non-one-issue voters say yes, then sadly I say I don’t even know my own country anymore.
An American president taking the side of murdering, child-stealing rapists over a democratic and free Ukraine! God help us. Wolves in sheep’s clothing.
