A community coloring book is being put together to help celebrate Shaler’s 125th anniversary.

Township residents of all ages are being asked to design pages for the commemorative book. Submissions are due by April 30.

To participate, sketch an image on an 8-by-10-inch piece of white paper, using a black Sharpie to outline the image, and place your name and phone number on the back. They can be turned in at the downstairs checkout counter of the Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mt. Royal Blvd.

The coloring books will be available during the library’s Art in the Community exhibition, which will run from May 16 through July 25 at the library. A mural created by library patrons during two workshops also will be on display.

Shaler was first formed as a second-class township in 1847, then including Etna, Millvale and parts of Ross.

After losing parts of its territory in 1868 when Etna and Millvale were incorporated as boroughs, Shaler was incorporated as a first-class township in 1900. A schedule of special events is available on the township’s website at shaler.org/504/125th-anniversary.
