A Butler man is in jail after being accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment in Arnold and pointing a gun at her, then pushing his way into another apartment after ditching the gun in the backyard of an abandoned house.

That’s the account in a criminal complaint from Arnold police, who filed 15 criminal charges against Devon Curtis Jones, 21, in connection to the Sunday morning incident.

Police were dispatched at 12:44 a.m. Sunday to the 1500 block of Third Avenue in Arnold for a report of an armed burglary, according to the complaint.

There, a woman told police she knew Jones and he entered through the apartment’s back door and pointed a gun at her face while she was holding her 10-month-old child, the complaint said.

Jones then ran out of the apartment and went to an apartment on Fourth Avenue, the woman told police. 911 dispatchers indicated Jones had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Allegheny County, the complaint said.

When police approached the Fourth Avenue apartment, a woman inside said Jones knocked on her door, then forced his way inside when she opened it, police said.

Police cleared the apartment and found Jones, but he did not have a gun. Officers and police dogs located the gun in the backyard of an abandoned Fourth Avenue home. Pittsburgh police confirmed the gun was stolen, according to the complaint.

Charges against Jones include burglary, criminal trespassing, prohibited possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at nighttime, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, possessing a weapon and tampering with evidence.

Jones was unable to post $50,000 bail and is being held in the Westmoreland County jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19 before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.
