Fawn residents interested in serving in local government can apply for a temporary supervisor’s term.
A vacancy was created after board member Phillip Smozski resigned effective June 3. His departure was announced at Tuesday’s supervisor’s meeting.
“It was a learning adventure,” Smozski said, when reached by phone on Wednesday.
He cited personal reasons for leaving just shy of completing his full six-year term.
Township Secretary Pam Ponsart said residents interested in filling the vacancy can submit a letter of interest by June 29.
Supervisors will appoint someone to serve the remainder of the year. To continue on, that person would have to run in the next municipal election for a six-year term.
The board meets next at 6 p.m. July 8.
There are five supervisors who serve the township at-large. Smozski was most recently the board’s vice chairman.
A township resident for more than 20 years, Smozski said he hopes to concentrate his free time on emergency services.
He previously was a member of Fawn Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, where he spent five years on the squad.
In recent years, Smozski joined Citizens Hose in Harrison and has climbed the ranks to captain.
“I want to focus my efforts there,” he said. “That’s my real passion.”
