An elderly woman was flown to a trauma center Wednesday evening after she was pinned underneath a car in Lower Burrell.

Lower Burrell Co. 3 Chief Brennan Sites said crews were dispatched at 6:28 p.m. for reports of a woman trapped under a car at Lower Burrell Manor, 200 Sylvan Drive.

“Police are investigating how that happened,” Sites said.

Police Chief John Marhefka couldn’t immediately be reached.

Rescue crews used airbags to get the woman out from under the car, Sites said. It took about 14 minutes to free the woman from the initial dispatch call, he said.

EMS determined the woman had “moderate to severe injuries,” Sites said, and she was flown to a trauma center.
