The Leechburg Area School District has renewed its memorandum of understanding agreement with the Leechburg Police Department.

“It shows that they have jurisdiction for any emergencies or anything that would happen,” said superintendent David Keibler.

Due to a 2023 state requirement, the district selected the department to enter into an MOU that would span two years. The renewed agreement does not feature any changes and will last until 2027, Keibler said.

According to the agreement, the Leechburg Area Police Department has jurisdiction over incidents that occur on school property, at any sponsored activity or on a vehicle providing transportation to or from a school or school-sponsored activity.

The agreement does not cover incidents that are outside of those school settings and that create no substantial disruption to the learning environment.
