A house fire Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Arlington neighborhood displaced nine residents and sent a responding firefighter to a local hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion.

2 injured in explosion at Lawrence County forge

Officials are investigating the cause of an electrical explosion Sunday night that injured two workers at Ellwood City Forge in Lawrence County.

Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Meyers told TribLive news partner WTAE that one worker was flown to a local trauma center for treatment and a second was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Fire officials said the person flown from the scene on Elwood City’s Commercial Avenue suffered severe burns.

The explosion occurred in a fuse panel inside the plant, according to officials.

Power to the plant was turned off and any remaining employees were sent home, Meyers said.

According to its website, Ellwood City Forge conducts open-die forging and has operated in that city since 1910. It has a second facility in New Castle.

Its products include shafts, rings, spindles and discs.
