The Pittsburgh Penguins announced an organizational coaching hire Wednesday, naming Evan McFeeters to a position entitled “roving minor league coach.”

McFeeters, 37, will join the Penguins’ player development department, supporting both the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

McFeeters will assist the player development staff with the on- and off-the-ice development of all prospects and players.

“We are extremely excited to add Evan to the organization,” assistant general manager Jason Spezza said in a statement. “Evan has a passion for development, and in his role, he will help increase cohesion between our AHL and ECHL coaching staffs, further emphasizing the importance of our four-tiered approach to development.”

McFeeters spent last season with the Prairie Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep team in Caronport, Saskatchewan.

In 2023-24, he coached with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, where he helped develop Penguins 2024 second-round draft pick Tanner Howe.

McFeeters has 15-plus years of coaching experience and spent 2016-23 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), splitting time between the Canmore Eagles, Brooks Bandits and Sherwood Park Crusaders.

In 2022-23 with Sherwood, McFeeters served as head coach and general manager.

He also worked under new Nailers coach Ryan Papaioannou as an assistant coach/assistant general manager with Brooks from 2020-22.

McFeeters hails from Canmore, Alberta, and served as an assistant for Canada West at the 2022 World Junior A Challenge.
