All charges were held for court against a 17-year-old accused of shooting a man this month at the Valley Royal Court apartment complex in New Kensington.
Charges against Logan James King include attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, attempts to cause bodily injury with a weapon, possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a firearm by a person not permitted to carry a firearm, according to court records.
Bail was denied by District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. King is being held in the Westmoreland County Jail.
A formal arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 22.
New Kensington police wrote in a criminal complaint that officers heard gunshots about 12:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Valley Royal Court apartment complex.
Officers found the man who was shot in the back of a car, the complaint said. He told officers “Logan” had shot him. The victim was driven in a personal vehicle to a local hospital and later was flown to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, according to police.
After the man was shot, King ran into an apartment at Valley Royal Court, the complaint said. SWAT teams established a perimeter around the apartment, and King surrendered without incident.
During a police interview, King told officers he was approached by the man and that the man started pushing him, the complaint said. King said, as he stumbled backward, he pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots at the man, authorities say.
King said he did not see a weapon in the man’s hands, the complaint said.
