Canadian rock legends Rush will return to the road next year for the first time in more than 10 years.
The prog rock trio last played on Aug. 1, 2015, on their R40 Live tour. Drummer Neil Peart died on Jan. 7, 2020.
In 2022, bassist/singer Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson played three Rush songs together at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert honoring the late Foo Fighters drummer.
“There was a special feeling attached to that, bittersweet because of obvious reasons,” Lee said in a video posted Monday to YouTube. “When we started jamming again down here, it was like a continuation of that moment. The more we played our old songs for fun, the more fun it became.”
“I love playing them,” Lifeson added. “I just love playing our songs again.”
Rush will be joined by German drummer Anika Nilles, who will take over for Peart.
“No small task, because as we all know Neil was irreplaceable,” Lee said, according to blabbermouth.net. “Yet life is full of surprises, and we have been introduced to another remarkable person; an incredible drummer and musician who is adding another chapter to our story while continuing her own fascinating musical journey. Her name is Anika Nilles, and we could not be more excited to introduce her to our loyal and dedicated Rush fanbase, whom, we know, will give her every chance to live up to that near impossible role.”

Rush last played in Pittsburgh on Sept. 11, 2012, on their Clockwork Angels tour at Consol Energy Center.
