It’s been a tumultuous start to the Bill Belichick era in Chapel Hill.
When the legendary NFL head coach was hired at North Carolina this past offseason, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the program with a six-time Super Bowl winner taking the reins. That excitement has quickly evaporated amid a 2-3 start in which the Tar Heels have been outscored 120-33 against power conference foes.
After an ugly 38-10 loss to Clemson in Saturday’s ACC opener, it seems we’re no longer getting a behind-the-scenes look at Belichick’s program. On Tuesday, InsideCarolina reported that UNC is “no longer moving forward” with an in-season documentary with Hulu, which Belichick announced to the team in August.
North Carolina was originally slated to be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” before the Hulu deal was announced, but the project was reportedly quashed when Belichick’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, demanded content approval and partial ownership of the show, according to a report from the New York Times in May.
Now, the Hulu show being shuttered is the latest sign that things are not going well for Belichick in Year 1. Despite his $10 million salary being one of the highest for any coach in the country, North Carolina looks like it could be one of the worst teams in the ACC, if not the entire Power Four.
Belichick and the Tar Heels have a bye in Week 7 before they look to get back on track with a cross-country road trip to face Cal. However, it seems our highly anticipated inside look at Belichick as a college coach will not come to pass.
