Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Caleb Jones has been placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss approximately eight weeks due to an undisclosed ailment.

The team announced Jones’ status Saturday morning.

Jones, a left-handed shot, was injured during a 5-3 road win against the Florida Panthers on Thursday. He did not record a shift beyond the 13:12 mark of the third period.

In seven games this season, Jones has primarily been stationed on the third pairing and has recorded one assist while averaging 17:10 of ice time per contest.

Jones, 28, joined the Penguins this past offseason, signing a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $900,000.
