With so much misinformation out there, it’s no surprise that many people are reaching incorrect conclusions. The letter “Democrats need to put Americans first” (Nov. 10) repeats one of the biggest whoppers by claiming that Democrats supported the shutdown to maintain and increase massive health benefits and subsidies for immigrants. Just such nonsense.
Republicans are seeking to eliminate benefits for poor and middle-class Americans in order to reduce taxes for the wealthiest 1%. That’s what’s at stake here. If you’re a billionaire, congrats. But the rest of us need to fight this regressive Republican agenda.
