Brennan Marion grew up watching Deion Sanders play.
“Prime Time” always seemed to make the SportsCenter highlights as an NFL cornerback or MLB outfielder. The dual-sport playmaker played for five teams in each league.
All of the sudden, Sanders is going to be Marion’s boss.
Marion, a Greensburg Salem alum, was high-stepping Friday when he was named the offensive coordinator at Colorado, leaving his first college head coaching job at Sacramento State to join “Coach Prime” in Boulder.
Sanders demoted former OC Pat Shurmur last month as the Buffaloes slogged through a 3-9 season.
The nomadic Marion, who engineered the “Go-Go” offense — he wrote a book about it — will join his 10th college program since 2015.
Sacramento State went 7-5 this season and averaged 33.8 points in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets were 3-9 last season.
“We brought in a man that has shown he’s creative, innovative, knowledgeable, smart and understands today’s players,” Sanders said in a news release. “He has made a difference on the field and off everywhere he’s been.”
Marion also was an OC at UNLV (2023-24) when the Runnin’ Rebels were 19-8 and played in back-to-back bowl games, averaging 36.2 points and 251.2 rushing yards a game in 2024.
He was named the Mountain West Coordinator of the Year in ’23 when UNLV put up a 34.4-point average.
“Humbled to be sought out by the best to ever do it in football, Coach Prime,” Marion said. “It’s my mission to make sure we put a great product on the field that the entire CU family can be proud of.”
Marion was the passing game coordinator at Texas in 2022 as the Longhorns put up 34.5 ppg.
The previous year, he coached wideouts at Pitt, among them Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison.
A former standout receiver at Tulsa, his other stops include Hawaii (WRs), William & Mary (OC/QBs) and Howard (OC/QBs).
