Harrison water rates will increase in January to help offset inflation and newly government-mandated but unfunded regulations, officials said.
Residents will see a 10% increase beginning with their first bills after the new year.
Minimum quarterly bills of $58.08 will climb about $5.80 to $63.90.
For a typical family using 15,000 gallons of water per quarter, charges will climb by $2.72 a month, or about $8 a quarter, said Nick Colledge, general mamanger of the Harrision Township Water Authority.
It is the water authority’s first fee increase since 2022.
Rising costs across the board have led to increases in treatment chemicals, healthcare, fuels, power, parts and equipment, Colledge said.
“The increase will help the authority continue projects that improve treatment equipment and water lines within the aging system,” he said.
Extensive water main replacements have taken place across the township, and the authority has updated customer metering equipment to monitor the system more effectively, Colledge said.
