Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Greensburg Road in Lower Burrell.
Harry J. Thomas, 62, of Plum was walking west on Greensburg Road when he was hit by a vehicle, according to Westmoreland County Coroner John Ackerman.
The incident was reported about 1 p.m. Wednesday near the city’s Kinloch neighborhood. Traffic was rerouted just before the Glassmere Fuel station on the Parnassus Triangle side of the crash and through Kinloch from the eastern side of the scene as police investigated.
Authorities received the report in the afternoon, but Lower Burrell police Detective Steve Aulerich said the incident occurred early in the morning. He couldn’t narrow it down to an exact time, nor could he confirm who called 911.
Aulerich said the driver of the vehicle has been identified and is cooperating with the investigation.
A Pennsylvania State Police forensics team and personnel from the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office responded in the afternoon. Thomas’ cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology results.
A white Ford pickup with front-end damage was visible at the scene in front of PSE Asphalt and Concrete Construction along Greensburg Road.
The road was reopened to traffic as of 6 p.m. Wednesday.
