Milo Ventimiglia always wanted to play Batman, but discovered people think he’s too old.
Speaking on “Morning Mash Up” on SiriusXM on Wednesday to promote his new movie, “The Art Of Racing In The Rain,” the 42-year-old actor talked about his desire to play Batman.
He said that he talked with his agent about being the new Batman, but was told that people thought he was too old.
“I think I’ve always wanted to be Batman. And then when there was the opportunity, I kind of shut my mouth for a while and then I said to my reps ‘Hey, can you go ask and inquire and check out that?’ And they were like ‘Milo they say you’re too old.’ And I went ‘Ok.’ And then a few weeks later I said hey would you mind calling again?” he said, according to a clip of the interview posted to YouTube.
But he said he was fine with not being Batman and talked about his current work.
“I like being the attainable superhero. I like in this move, ‘The Art Of Racing In The Rain,’ Denny, he’s the attainable superhero. Like Jack Pearson on ‘This is Us.’ I don’t need a cape. I don’t need a cowl.
“As cool as that would have been, because every boy wants to be Batman, it’s ok,” he continued.
In the interview he did praise actor Robert Pattinson, who was announced as the latest actor to play Batman.
Early in his career Ventimiglia did played a superhero on the TV show “Heroes.” That character could absorb special abilities and powers from other people.
He has also been part of several other superhero projects, including doing the voice of Wolverine and Logan on a 2011 Marvel animated series; the villain Orge in three episode on Fox’s “Gotham” in 2015; and the voice of Spider-Man Noir in “Ultimate Spider-Man” animated series.
Ventimiglia is the star of NBC’s “This is Us” portraying Jack Pearson, the patriarch of a Pittsburgh family.
