Retired WPXI reporter DeHaven “Dee” Thompson died May 9 at age 84.

Thompson worked at Channel 11 from 1974 until his retirement in 2009.

WPXI meteorologist Scott Harbaugh posted a tribute on Facebook, writing, “ ‘Dee’ was one of the kindest people you would ever want to meet. … Always a smile, a kind word, a quick wit, Mr. Thompson is [a] broadcast legend in Pittsburgh. My prayers are with his family at this time. What a wonderful human being.”

Retired KDKA-TV reporter Paul Martino posted to Facebook, “Dee was a great reporter, wonderful guy and a strong union supporter. RIP.”

A memorial visitation for Thompson will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home at 273 Route 68 in Rochester.
