Pittsburgh Pop podcast: Talking regional Emmy winners, ‘The Morning Show,’ ‘Sunday Ticket’ on YouTube

In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment including local winners of the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards that were handed out in Philadelphia Saturday night. WQED-TV garnered eight trophies. WPXI took home seven (including “continuing coverage”), KDKA-TV won four (including “news excellence” and “breaking news”), AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins won two each and WTAE-TV took home one.

In individual achievement, WPXI’s Lisa Sylvester won for news anchor, former WPXI reporter Angie Moreschi won for reporter/specialty assignment, AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh’s Dan Potash won for talent/sports and WQED’s “Cartoon Academy” host Joe Wos won for program host/moderator. Owen and Benz discuss the latest setback in negotiations to end the actors’ strike and filmed-in-Pittsburgh movie “Handyman from Hell,” debuting this week on cable’s Lifetime Movie Network.

Benz gets into the latest plot twists in “The Morning Show” and the pair discuss the latest on the NFL’s “SundayTicket” on YouTube and the possibility of a future Super Bowl in London.

And Owen gives his take on the “Frasier” sequel series.
