Now is the time of the Freddy Kruegers, the Pennywises, the Jason Voorhees … er, eeses.

There are so many horror villains to pick from. Which are our favorites? How would we ever determine it? Oh, the horror!

Frontier Communications has a solution. The telecommunications company boiled down the lineup of scary movie antiheroes and then used Google Trends to check the search volume for the past 12 months.

The result is a list of which villain is the most-searched in each state.

Pennsylvanians seem to dig Jack Torrence from the horror classic “The Shining.” Of course, Torrence was also the top choice in the most number of states. In addition to Pa., his toll included Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

For those in neighboring Ohio, Leatherface was the pick, along with Arizona, Kentucky and Texas. Those in West Virginia picked Freddy Krueger — the only state to pick the sweater-clad, steel-fingered dude.

The second most popular horror villain was Pennywise, who topped searches in Alabama, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, North Dakota, Utah and Virginia.

Other icons to make the list: Chucky (tops in six states), Frankenstein’s Monster (six), Hannibal Lecter (five), Alien (three), Carrie (two), Ghostface (two), Norman Bates (two) and Count Dracula (one).
