The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council is accepting applications for funds to support artists of color affected by the covid-19 epidemic.

The council has received $50,000 for the Emergency Fund for Artists from The Pittsburgh Foundation, The Heinz Endowments and The Opportunity Fund specifically to support artists of color.

At least 90% of funds will support those artists, with 70% of funds going directly to Black artists, and 50% of that portion going directly to applicants who identify as Black women.

This distribution of funds is motivated by Pittsburgh’s Gender Equity Commission’s report on “Pittsburgh’s Inequality Across Race and Gender,” as well as nationwide data on how covid-19 is affecting Black Americans at a disproportionately higher rate, according to a release.

Artists of all disciplines living in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties are eligible to request up to $500 in financial assistance.

Applicants fitting the criteria and demographics will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no deadline to apply.

This financial assistance is unrestricted and can be used for rent, bills, groceries, childcare and other needs. Previous recipients of this fund are not eligible to reapply.
