Latrobe-based Cabaret Theatre will turn off the ghost light and turn on the stage lights with a post-pandemic reopening production called “All Together Now!”
Cabaret is joining with theater companies worldwide to stage the Broadway musical revue, which was offered royalty-free to small companies by the licensing house Music Theatre International as a way to celebrate local theater with a global reopening event on Nov. 12.
MTI is offering “All Together Now!” as a fundraiser to schools and theater groups to be performed over the same four days. MTI says more than 2,500 theaters in all 50 states and more than 40 countries will participate.
Cabaret will present four performances of “All Together Now!” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12-13 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 13-14 in the Olde Main Theater, 350 Main St., Latrobe.
The show will feature Jennifer and Jerry Woodling, a married couple from Delmont.
“Each cast member — there are nine of us — get(s) to perform in about 15 different numbers and it’s all tied together when each one of us tells the audience how we got involved in theater in the first place,” said Jennifer Woodling. “Returning to the stage is exciting. You never really know how much you miss doing something until it isn’t there for you to do. I think I can speak for Jerry as well when I say that we are both very, very excited to be part of this grand reopening.”
The audience will bond with the players as they reveal the situations that brought them into theater, according to John Carosella, the company’s artistic director.
“At the end, we hope that each member of the audience feels a part of the whole experience,” he said. “That’s what we’re going for. Kind of a mutual admiration society.
“Without an audience, we don’t have a show,” he added. “I mean, we can rehearse until Judgment Day, but the show remains a rehearsal until we do it for an audience. That’s when the magic of theater happens.”
Audience members will be invited to a reception following each performance.
“Jennifer and Jerry Woodling have been with the Cabaret since it began operations in Latrobe in 2015,” Carosella said. “They are hard workers. They show up early to rehearsals and they want to learn and improve their skills. All directors love that combination.”
“We love doing theatre,” Jennifer Woodling said. “It’s a great way to spend time together, make new friends and end up presenting a product we are proud of. I can’t speak for other married couples, but for us it works.”
Audience members will be required to wear masks, except when eating or drinking, and seating is limited to ensure social distancing among them, Carosella said.
A ticket is $15. To ensure seating, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 724-527-7775.
