Moving day doesn’t go quite as planned for newlyweds Olivia and Gabe in the new romantic comedy, “Things My Mother Taught Me,” running July 23-Aug. 4 at Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown.

Katherine DiSavino’s script has the couple driving halfway across the country to start their new life together in Chicago. Complications arise when both sets of parents show up to help them move into their new apartment.

“It’s a truly funny, heartwarming piece about love and relationships in all combinations,” says director Guy Stroman. “The foibles, dilemmas and the laughs are exactly what a night at the Mountain Playhouse does best, and this cast, made up of audience favorites and a couple of incredibly talented new faces, will provide a delightful production.”

In the role of Gabe, J.D. Daw is returning for his fifth summer at the playhouse, where his previous credits include “Moon Over the Brewery,” “Comedy of Tenors,” “The Affections of May” and “One Slight Hitch.” The Penn State alumnus recently sang at a gala event for UNICEF in Houston, Texas.

Justine Magnusson plays Olivia. Her previous Mountain Playhouse credits include “Smoke on the Mountain,” “One Slight Hitch” and “Too Many Cooks.” Other credits include include “Searching for Romeo” at the New York Musical Festival and the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Whistle Down the Wind.”

Playwright DiSavino also wrote the comedy, “Nanna’s Naughty Knickers,” performed at the playhouse in 2015. The Los Angeles writer is a story editor on the CW’s “Nancy Drew” and also worked on that network’s “The Outpost.”

Following the 7 p.m. July 24 performance of “Things My Mother Taught Me,” audience members can join members of the company for a complimentary opening night party with music, food and cash bar in nearby Green Gables Restaurant.

Members of the cast will participate in a question-and-answer session with the audience after the 3 p.m. July 28 matinee.
