Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre honors retiring artistic director

The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre paid tribute to artistic director Terrence S. Orr on his last day with a moving — literally — tribute.
Filmed from a moving vehicle, dancers leapt and twirled in front yards, porches, a parking lot, streets, sidewalks and a park to say goodbye to Orr, who retired after 23 years with the PBT.
Orr’s last day was Tuesday, the same day the video posted.
“On his final day with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, we think back to many memorable performances and experiences that Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr has given us and the Pittsburgh community. Thank you from the dancers, and from all of us at PBT, for your leadership and legacy.”
Orr’s original production of “The Nutcracker” has become a cherished holiday tradition in Pittsburgh, and he also debuted story ballets like “A Streetcar Named Desire, “La Bayadère” and “Romeo et Juliette.”
“I have made Pittsburgh my home and certainly my life ever since,” Orr said when he announced his retirement. “It has been exciting to watch the company grow and rise to incredible heights.”
