The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announced Wednesday requirements for proof of covid-19 vaccination and face masks will be determined on a per event basis starting Monday.
The artist or promoter of the event will decide whether guests need to show they’ve been vaccinated, present a negative covid test and/or wear a face covering.
“This decision was made in response to low positivity levels in Allegheny County. We will continually monitor (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), state and local health requirements and adjust as necessary,” the trust said in a statement.
It added individual touring productions will provide their health and safety requirements by noting them on individual event pages and in pre-show emails.
Kevin McMahon, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust said via email the decision was made in response to the low positivity levels in Allegheny County.
He said individual touring productions may have their own health and safety requirements. Allowing them to determine their own entry protocols is an important step as things continue to move forward.
For a venue such as Liberty Magic the performers and audience are in closer proximity given the 66-seat size of the house, he said. In order to continue attracting top talent it is important to provide artists with a say in what makes them comfortable.
Being able to get back to some sense of normalcy is wonderful, McMahon said.
“Nothing can ever replace the joy of gathering in-person to experience the arts,” McMahon said. “Over the last seven months, we have witnessed guests re-entering our theaters and venues, taking in their palpable excitement first-hand. We couldn’t be happier to have successfully reopened and we look forward to welcoming more and more people into the cultural district.”
He said the past two years has a silver lining in that Pittsburgh’s arts community is resilient and loyal.
“We received endless support from our local sponsors and supporters, above and beyond what was expected, and local artists have come back in spades to fill our venues with amazing arts experiences,” he said. “Art connects us, and continues to be a vital piece of our city’s economic resurgence.”
Before Monday, guests will need to provide proof of covid-19 vaccination and/or a negative covid test within 72 hours of a show. There are some events that will continue those requirements.
