A new Aldi grocery store will open in Pittsburgh’s Banksville neighborhood next week.

It’s located at a site that formerly housed a Staples on Banksville Road, near the intersection with Wenzell Avenue and Carnahan Road.

The area’s newest Aldi will launch with a grand opening on Thursday at 8:45 a.m.

The first 100 customers will receive a gift bag with various Aldi-exclusive products and a gift card.

Shoppers will be able to enter a sweepstakes for a $500 Aldi gift card throughout the opening weekend.

“At our New Pittsburgh ALDI store, shoppers will find that every decision we make, from our product selection to store layout, is to provide our customers with the best products at the lowest possible prices of any national grocer,” said Kevin Ely, the chain’s regional vice president.

The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

It will be located less than a mile away from a Kuhn’s Market also situated on Banksville Road.

Aldi in a news release touted its affordability, citing a company report that showed families can save nearly $4,000 on grocery bills by swapping name brands for Aldi products.

Experts recently told TribLive the greater Pittsburgh market has a shortage of supermarket chains.

More grocery stores have been opening in the region to fill the void.

Aldi has unveiled new locations in Allegheny Township, Hempfield, Lower Burrell, New Kensington and Wilkinsburg over the last few years.

Wegmans announced plans to open a store in Cranberry — its first in the region — in 2027. And Meijer, a Michigan-based chain known for sprawling supercenters — is eyeing a Cranberry spot as it pushes into Western Pennsylvania.
