Several Western Pennsylvania agribusiness start-ups that use technology innovations will share the spotlight beginning Saturday at the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
Five of six companies to be featured in the Farm Show Innovation Showcase are located on the western end of the state. Included are three Allegheny County firms: Livestock Labs, which markets an implantable health tracker for livestock; Panacea Ag, which provides sensors, robotics and automated controls to support greenhouse farming; and Skycision, which offers drones to help farmers monitor crops.
Pitt Moss of Ambridge, Beaver County, recycles paper material into a planting medium. FarmJenny of Mars, Butler County, is developing technologies to alert owners of small and mid-sized farms about changes in livestock behavior and facility conditions.
The showcase also will feature Phospholutions of State College, which pulls phosphorus from sources of pollution to generate a cost-effective fertilizer.
Company representatives will demonstrate their innovations 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday at the state Department of Agriculture’s booth in the main hall of the Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, 2300 N. Cameron St.
Admission to the farm show is free. Parking costs $15 in all Farm Show Complex-operated lots.
